I got
Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross sometime back and immediately flagged this shirt as one I'd like to try. It really intimidated me with all of it's button holes and crisp lines and honestly it's hard to compete with Old Navy when it comes to boy shirts. But I was intrigued and I had the perfect fabric to use and a two year old nephew with a birthday coming up. So yesterday I was feeling ambitious and crafty and decided to tear into it. I gave myself the reasonable expectation to simply cut it out and maybe sew a little and then finish it the next day, but lo and behold I got the whole thing done in one day!

I'm still admiring it from across the room and in disbelief that I sewed it. The pattern was easy to follow and my newly serviced sewing machine sewed like a hot knife through butter which was nice. The size is 2T but it looks larger than that, well wider. I think it looks short and wide which is not how the birthday boy is built so we'll see if it works out for him.
If it were a girl garment I could easily add a contrasting band or some ruffles along the bottom to lengthen it out but you can't really do that on a big boy shirt.

Yay! We love the little man shirt from Aunt Sarah! So far I haven't even tried it on him, just moved it from one cute hanging spot to the next.
